Barry Rudolph Barth, 85, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at his home in Greenwood with his family by his side. A funeral mass will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, June 14, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Joachim C. Studwell, OFM officiating. Visitation is from 10-11 A.M. prior to the service.
Barry was born to Frank and Myrtle Barth in Bogalusa, LA. He was raised there and graduated from Louisiana Tech University. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Interceptor which was a radar ship that assisted with protecting the US West coast against enemy invasion.
Barry moved to Greenwood in 1966 where he went to work at Baldwin Piano Company, made his home and raised his family. He was a true artisan with his painting and carpentry skills which led him to start his own business, Paint and Paper Plus.
As a dedicated member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Barry found tremendous joy in serving on various committees and working with the youth Ministry. Barry poured himself into making his church beautiful. He worked tirelessly to make necessary repairs, implement planned renovations, and restore the aging altar and statuaries.
He taught himself the skills necessary to be a master duck hunter having earned the respect of Ducks Unlimited as their Outdoors Man of the year in 2003.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Anna Perryman.
Barry was a devoted family man leaving behind to cherish his memory are; his wife of 62 years, Alice Schexnayder Barth; 2 daughters, Debbie Bishop (Tom) of Mooresville, NC, Alison Wire (Patrick) of Dallas, TX; 2 sons, Mike Barth of Greenwood, Scott Barth (Margaret) of Jackson, TN ; 7 grandchildren, Malorie Folino, Nick Folino, Kevin Folino, Abby Wire, Sophie Wire, Audrey Weddington, Evan Barth and 2 great grandchildren, Josie Weddington and Leila Folino.
Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church building and maintenance fund.
The family wishes extend their heartfelt gratitude to Vital Caring Home Health and Hospice and to Tender Home Care sitters for their profound compassion and for helping to make a difficult time more manageable.
