Barbara Mitchell Fields, 78, passed away Sunday evening, August 10, 2025, at her home in Carroll County.
Barbara was born to Archie Ray Mitchell and Jewell Greenlee Mitchell on March 4, 1947. After graduating from Greenwood High School, she went on to attend Mississippi Delta Junior College. Barbara’s professional career began with Stribling Clements in Greenwood, MS, where she provided customer service to clients in sales, leasing, rentals and parts for the entire Caterpillar product line. Then in 1988, Thompson Machinery acquired the Stribling Clements dealership, and Barbara’s valuable knowledge of CAT enabled her to progress with the company, relocating her to Memphis, TN. There she worked as an executive secretary to the VP of used machine sales and heavy metal operations, servicing clients throughout both the West and East Regions.
Shortly after her relocation to TN, Barbara met her beloved husband, Terry Lee Fields, with whom she shared 34 years in a committed and loving marriage. After retiring from Thompson Machinery, Barbara moved home to her roots. She and Terry could often be found mastering some fairway at their favorite Country Club.
Barbara will be most remembered for her kind loving spirit and generous heart! She was a devoted and loyal Christian, wife, sister and friend. Many friends stand out but her bestie was always Norma Jean Carpenter and Mickey Matthews was like a brother. Barbara found joy and expressed boundless love through her art of baking. Favorites were her chocolate chip cookies, strawberry cake and chicken and dumplings!
