Louis Tackett, 75, of Greenwood, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, August 17, 2025, at River Oaks in Flowood, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Louis Tackett and Maudie Hays Tackett; his beloved grandmother, Maudie “Mama Mae” McFerrin Hays, who also delivered him; a special aunt, Joanne Hays; his brother, Tim Tackett; and his sons, Chuck Tackett and Blake “Butch” Klemme.
Louis is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Dianne Baker Tackett; and his daughters, Gina Odom (Cole) of Rayville, LA, Cori Tackett, and Jaime Lynn Carpenter (Zack). He will also be deeply missed by his cherished sister, Carol Chapman, with whom he shared an extraordinary bond; his brother, Mark (Martha) Tackett of Oak Grove, LA; and his sisters, Susan Holt of Ruleville, MS, and Billie Gordon of Merigold, MS. He was a proud grandfather and uncle, leaving behind a host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will forever treasure his memory.
Born in Shelby, Mississippi, on September 7, 1949, Louis graduated from Shelby High School in 1967 and attended Mississippi Delta Junior College before serving honorably in the United States Navy. After his service, he built a long career in tire sales, spending decades working alongside and serving farmers across the Mississippi Delta. Known for his dedication, hard work, and warm personality, Louis formed countless lasting friendships throughout his career.
Beyond his work, Louis lived a life of faith and simple joys. He loved spending time with his family, telling stories, and keeping everyone laughing. His kindness, generosity, wisdom, and unshakable loyalty made him a pillar of strength to his family and community. He never met a stranger, lived with gratitude, and gave wholeheartedly to others.
His legacy is one of love, perseverance, and faith — qualities he instilled in his children, grandchildren, and all who knew him. Though deeply missed, the impact of his life and the memories he created will remain forever in the hearts of those he loved.
