Anne Pittman Barry, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and close friends, Monday, September 18, 2023. Memorial services are 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 23 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, Greenwood, MS.
Anne was born to John Gilmore and Mary Knight Pittman of Meridian, MS September 4, 1937. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1956 and served Greenwood well as “Miss Greenwood” in 1955. After high school, Anne married the love of her life, W. Sullivan Barry. During Sullivan’s time in the United States Air Force, they made homes in Denver, CO, Biloxi, MS, and Kansas City before returning to Greenwood.
Anne worked at John Richards Galleries as a designer and with the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau. She was an avid tennis player with rankings in the state of MS. She also was an accomplished artist, a dog groomer, and enjoyed gardening. She also loved the beach and collecting seashells from her travels.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Debbie Barry Montgomery.
She is survived by her daughters, Marguerite Richter (Ricky) of Knoxville, TN, Shannon Ola (Anthony) of Greenwood, MS; a sister, Marilyn Bell (Phillip) of Boerne, TX; her grandchildren, Ashley Myrick, Barry Ainsworth, Ali Williams (Chase), Shelby Cottrell (Kevin), Taylor Richter, Anthony Ola (Skyler), Mary Kathryn O’Dell (Brantley); her great grandchildren, Bailey O’Dell, MacKenzie Ainsworth, Thomas Wade Ainsworth, Gage, Mary Presley and Sulli Grace Williams, Marissa, Cheyenne and Gracie Cottrell, Alex Richter, Revan Martell and great great grandson, William O’Dell. Her dearest and closest friends, Gay McCain, Susan Scott Blasingame, and Jo Boswell Flautt. She will be missed by all.
