Ann Howard Aven Walker, 89, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025, at Indywood Glen in Greenwood. Funeral services are 11 A.M. Wednesday, February 19 at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Rev. Collin Montgomery will officiate. Visitation is from 10-11 A.M. prior to the service.
Ann was born to John Howard and Annie Maude Burrow Aven December 21,1935. She graduated from Greenwood High School and MSCW (now MUW) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. She was Sigma Chi Sweetheart of 1956 for the Gamma Upsilon Chapter at MS State University.
During her career she taught music at Leflore County High School in Itta Bena, Bankston Elementary School, Carroll Academy, Pillow Academy, Cruger Tchula Academy and from home. She served as church organist for 10 years at St John’s Methodist Church, 38 years for First Baptist Church and substituted at other churches for many years.
She was past president of the Pillow Band Boosters, former member of the LeBonte Woman’s Club, St John’s Woman’s Society, Matinee Musicale, Town and Country Garden Club, Life member of Junior Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, Early Families Club, Bridge Club, Supper club and Explorer’s Bible Study.
She is preceded in death by her husband, C. W. “Billy” Walker, Jr, her parents, and a sister, Betty Sue Pruett. She is survived by 3 sons, Danny Walker (Cindy) of Greenwood, Bill Walker (Anne) of Greenville, John Walker of Lake Charles, LA; 8 grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Williams (Tyler) of Red Wing, MN, Lindsay Stroble (Martin) of Nashville, TN, Reynolds Walker of Murfreesboro, TN, Chris Walker (Sarah) of Birmingham, AL, Daniel Walker (Beka) of Picayune, MS, Kasi Breaux of Greenwood, MS, Lindsi Junkin (Cade) of Indianola, MS, Leigh Ann Walker of Albuquerque, NM; 8 great-grandchildren, Hudson Stroble, Whit Stroble, Sawyer Young, Anniston Williams, Charlotte Walker, Christopher Walker, Charlie Walker and Fox Walker.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Daniel Walker, Chris Walker, Reynolds Walker, Tyler Williams, Cade Junkin and Martin Stroble.
The family wishes to offer a special word of thanks to her care takers, Maudel Cordova, Jeremy Byford, Frederick Barnes and the staff of Indywood Glen.
Memorials may be made to the North Greenwood Baptist Church music fund.
