James Alton Alderman, 89, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood. Visitation will be from Noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 30, at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home followed by burial at Mount Olive Cemetery in Coila with Rev. Colin Montgomery officiating. Pallbearers are Will Alderman, Thomas Williamson, Scott Grantham, Chris Wilson, and Fred Baine. Honorary pallbearers are Gray Alderman and Bob Grantham
Alton was born April 8, 1936 in Carroll County, Mississippi (Coila) to the late Malachi and Lottie Wiltshire Alderman and graduated from J.Z. George High School. He later resided in Greenwood for more than 70 years. Mr. Alderman was a sales representative and retired from Hardware Distribution Warehouses (HDW), Inc. (formerly Henderson & Baird Hardware) after 40 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Grantham; and a brother, Hollis Alderman.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Alderman, of Greenwood; two sons, Larry (Elizabeth) Alderman of Greenwood and Steve (Lynn) Alderman of Madison; four grandchildren, Ashton (Chris) Wilson of Greenwood; and Avery (engaged to Thomas Williamson) Alderman of Germantown, TN; Gray Alderman of Spring Hill, TN: Will Alderman of Cleveland; and four great grandchildren.
