Allene (Boykin) Fitts

Allene B. Fitts, 93, passed away peacefully Friday morning, June 19, 2020 at County Meadow Personal Care Home in Greenwood, funeral services are 11 A.M. Monday, June 22 at the Greenwood Delta Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Itta Bena Cemetery.  Rev. Glen Barlow will officiate.  Visitation is from 9-11 prior to the service.

Allene was born in Greenwood to John E. and Clarice Watson Boykin.  She was raised in Itta Bena, graduated Humphreys High School and attended Delta State University.  She began her nursing career in Itta Bena with Dr. Jess Hightower and later joined Dr. Eugene Webb where she worked for the next 54 years.  Allene was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Itta Bena and the over 60’s group.  She had also served on the Itta Bena Board of Aldermen and on the Housing Authority board. Known lovingly as “NaNaw” to her grandchildren, she lived her life loving and serving God, family and the community.  She had a heart of Gold and had a passion for helping other.  Mrs. Fitts was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Edward Earl Fitts, Sr.

Allene is survived by two daughters;  Carolyn Mitchell and Mona Saunders; a son, Edward E. Fitts, Jr., all of Greenwood; a sister, Helen Allison of Moorhead; eight grandchildren, Edward Shane Bills (Kayce) of Brandon, Carmon Clark (Doug) of Brandon, April Davis (Justin) of Cleveland, Watson Fitts, Gaston Fitts, Dylan Fitts, Madison Fitts and Lillian Fitts, all of Chapel Hill NC; and eight great Grandchildren, Ava Grace Bills, Brody Bills, Anna Douglas Clark, Hayes Clark, Colby Clark, Sailor Davis, Thomas Steele Davis and Swayze Davis.

Pallbearers will be Shane Bills, Doug Clark, Justin Davis, Watson Fitts, Dylan Fitts and Gaston Fitts.

The family wishes to thank Rebecca and Danny Edwards and the staff of Country Meadow, Kristi Hemphill and the staff of Halcyon Hospice for their compassionate care. also to Dr. Kenneth Hines and his staff for their excellent and loving care.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of donor’s choice.
