Katherine (Bailey) Gibbs

Katherine Bailey Gibbs, 77, passed away Tuesday evening, February 19, 2019 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.  Funeral Services are 11 A.M. Saturday, February 23 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Billy Ray Stonestreet and Rev. Dennis Gossett officiating.  Interment will be 2 P.M. Saturday at Oregon Church cemetery near Lexington.  Visitation is from 10-11 A.M. Saturday prior to the service at the church.

Katherine was born to Grady and Eunice Bailey in Lexington.  She graduated Holmes Jr. College and finished her degree at Delta State University. Later she returned to Delta State where she earned her Masters Degree.  She taught school in the Winona Public School system and Bankston Elementary school and was later principal for the Indianola Elementary school.

Katherine was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and attended the First United Methodist Church and sang in both choirs.  She was a member of The Greenwood Chorale and volunteered for the Greenwood Mentoring Group.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Everarde Jones and Ray Gibbs and by two sisters, Geraldine Popham and Vivian Bailey.  She is survived by her brother, Rev. Grady Bailey and wife, Jenny of Brandon, MS and seven nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church, the Greenwood Mentoring Group, P.O. Box 9166 Greenwood, MS  38935 or the charity of donor’s choice.
