James "Pete" Wesley Cox

A celebration of life of James Wesley “Pete” Cox will be held at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home in Greenwood, Mississippi at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 11. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home. Pete was welcomed into heaven on September 8, 2019.

Pete was born on August 15, 1927 in Carroll County. He was known all his life by his nickname, “Pete.” He was a graduate of Black Hawk High School and lived most of his life in Carroll County and Greenwood. Pete was married to Dot Cox on June 14, 1947 in Carrollton, Mississippi.  Pete was a charter member and deacon of Valley Hill Baptist Church.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Daisy Daves Cox and his sister, Dorothy Switzer. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dot (Wilma Downs Cox), his sister, Shirley Lott,  of Greenwood, three sons, Larry (Cheryl) of Armuchee, Georgia, Bubba (Lou Ann) of Brandon, Mississippi, and Danny (Rae) from Greenwood. Pete had 8 grandchildren: Jason, Jeremy, Laurie, Amanda, Allison, Colby, Brittney, and Cayson. Pete was very proud of his 20 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will follow the service on Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Carrolton, Mississippi. Serving as pallbearers will be Cayson Cox, Colby Cox, Jason Cox, Jeff Hunter, Jeremy Cox ,Jeffrey Estridge,  Keith Conner, Sean Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. William Jones, Dr. Ricky Goldberg and members of Valley Hill Baptist Church.
