Carl Jenkins Obituary

Carl O’Neal “Bubba” Jenkins, was born August 16, 1944 and died Sunday evening, March 10, 2019, at his home with his family by his side.  Funeral services are at 11 A.M. on Wednesday morning, March 13, 2019 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, where he was a member with interment at Itta Bena Cemetery.  Rev. Billy Ray Stonestreet will officiate.  Visitation is from 10-11 in the church parlor.

Bubba grew up in Itta Bena and graduated from Leflore County High School, where he was Captain of the football team. He attended MS Delta Jr College on a football scholarship, and later attended MSU. He and his horse, LoBo, were members of the Block and Bridle Club at MSU. He graduated from the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa, Oklahoma, specializing as an airplane and power plant mechanic. He worked for four years at Central Aero before joining the family business, Delta Brokerage. Mr. Jenkins owned and operated Delta Brokerage Company with his late brother, Wiley Hampton Jenkins, Jr, from 1964 to 2009. Jimmy Sanders became part owner in 1989, and Bubba worked until his retirement.

Mr. Jenkins was an avid hunter. He was a proud member and treasurer of Itta Bena Hunting Club. He will remembered by his dry humor, big heart, and his love of family.

Bubba was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Jenkins, Sr.; one brother Wiley Jenkins, Jr.; and two sisters, Helen Azlyn and Barbara Lucas.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joy Wilson Jenkins; two daughters, Amy Holiman and her husband, Jesse of Flora, MS; Emily Cheatham and her husband Jay of Goodman, MS; and five grandchildren, Meg Crocker, Molly Crocker and Wilson Crocker of Madison, MS; and Jackson Ellis and Haskin Cheatham of Goodman, MS; and numerous family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Bo Prestidge, Charles Wright, Matt Smith, Sammy Pigott, Steve Strickland, Jimbo Bowen, Wilson Britt and Gaston Lyon.  Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Bariola, Dr. Henry Flautt and Raymond Everett, and all of his hunting buddies.

The family wishes to thank Morgan Moses Moore, Taylor Calhoun, Karen Blount, and the staff of Halcion Home Health.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, Greenwood Humane Shelter, or charity of donor’s choice.
